Gillian McMurray:

Artist and Craftsperson

About Gillian McMurray

I have been painting and drawing since childhood and have nearly 30 years experience working with watercolour. Pen and ink is also a favourite medium and I have recently started using coloured pencil.

My passion for painting and drawing is only surpassed by my love of animals, especially the local wildlife. I regularly take part in surveying the flora and fauna of Britain and can frequently be found prowling the countryside in search of local wildlife to inspire me.

I specialise in painting and drawing animals, both wild and domestic. Another passion is architecture. It doesn't matter if it is a humble home or an ancient castle, I have painted it.

My art work is in collections in the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe and all over Britain.

My paper bead work started in 2008 and has led to my work being on TV and published in magazines. Since then I have sent beads to almost every continent and seen them used in a variety of original projects. I also hand make silk cord and other items of passementerie (fabric trimmings) for my own enjoyment.

I sell my original art, beads and silk cords online via my stores on Etsy and Folksy. I can be followed on Twitter or keep up to date with my art and other crafts on my blog.

You can contact me via Etsy or Folksy's messaging system or by email.

Personal statement:

I like the freedom that working for oneself brings. Through the ups and the downs it is all up to me. I enjoy the challenge that each piece of art turns out to be. Learning new techniques and crafts is great fun. However, one of the very best things is hearing people’s joy when they receive something that I have created.
